Tips to consistently nourish your body

I often see people making really grand plans and commitments in order to make sure they're "on track" with their nutrition all week. I get asked a lot of what to "meal prep" or how to do it. Let me tell you, I used to be the kind of person to spend hours in the kitchen on Sunday, make multiple meals and have them all packed up nice and pretty. But as a busy mom, that is not how I am spending my Sundays anymore. Over the years, I have learned a lot of practical ways to make eating your own healthy food daily really pretty simple.

Make a big breakfast on the weekends

Breakfast can be a meal that many busy moms struggle with. When you're trying to get kids dressed, fed and all the things together before running out the door, it can be hard to make sure everyone has a nourishing breakfast that sets them up for the day.

I highly recommend making an abundance of something on the weekends that you can eat on all week. Some of our favorites are pancakes, muffins, bagels, cinnamon rolls, and biscuits. It's easy to pair something like that with eggs or yogurt and fruit for a well balanced, nourishing breakfast.

You can also freeze a lot of homemade items to always have on hand!

Make extra at dinner for lunch

I love leftovers. If I am already taking the time to cook and get my kitchen dirty, I'm going to get as many meals as I can out of it. When I am cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, I will immediately place leftovers in single serve containers. Another great idea is to make a big batch of protein such as shredded chicken or ground beef to pair with different things like rice, salads or wraps. Some of my go-to's are lemon pepper chicken and taco seasoned ground beef.

Plan your week

You are much less likely to eat out during the week if you already have a plan. Plus when the week starts to get hectic, it's one less thing for you to think about. Personally, I write down what we are eating for dinner in my planner along with when I need to take meat out of the freezer to thaw or feed my sourdough starter, etc. Having a plan allows you to shop sales as well, saving you money!

Keep a well stocked kitchen

I highly recommend keeping your pantry, fridge and freezer stocked with ingredients. I could at any given time make a number of different meals just because we always have a full pantry and a freezer full of meat. Buying in bulk also saves more money! It's not a bad idea to keep a list of those meals you know you can whip up quickly when you need to. Some of my go to's are spaghetti, tacos, stir fry, and breakfast for dinner.

Of all the things you could do for you and your family's health, eating nourishing food consistently is the absolute best thing.
